Stepping Up to High School

Written by on . Posted in News

Transitioning to high school and earning a high school diploma is an important achievement for all students. For our students with special needs, parents and students need to be fully informed of how to be prepared not only to step up to high school but also understand how the Individual Education Plan aligns with the requirements for a High School Diploma. Attendees will leave our meeting with a better understanding of the requirements of earning a diploma and how the IEP supports students on their path to graduation. Attendees will also hear young adults share their success stories from self-advocacy and to gaining that first job after graduation.

Southeast GLRS participated in “Stepping Up to High School”, an event organized by Juliet Hardeman of Georgia Parent Mentor Partnership. The event included information on the transition to high school for 7th and 8th grade students with an IEP or 504 plan. Speakers included teachers, coaches, parents, former students, current students, GLRS consultants, Georgia Parent Mentor Partnership, and Dr. Zelphine Smith-Dixon, the State Director at the Georgia Department of Education!
